Highland Home Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department (HHVFR) was established by a group of men and women in the community that recognized the need for life protection and ambulance service. In 1972 a group of men and women in the community began establishing what is now known as Highland Home Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. During this time, they acquired and built mostly homemade trucks and equipment. The department was officially incorporated as a non-profit organization on May 26, 1976. The original Board of Directors were; Gail Smith, Gene Oswald, Charles Porter and Earl White. The first engine the department owned was a 1956 American LaFrance on a Ford chassis. The department has grown immensely over the last 48 years and proudly serves the Highland Home and surrounding communities. Pictured above is some of the founding members of the department around the year 1972.
